A Strength and Conditioning Specialist by trade who has been working in professional soccer and sports his entire career (LA Galaxy, Orange County SC). His mission now is to work with local athletes to help them achieve their goals applying the same methods gained in the trenches of pro sports performance culture.
A local of Huntington Beach now, Johnny holds a Masters Degree in Sports Performance and Rehabilitation. After playing for the Houston Dynamo in MLS, Johnny made the transition to become a strength and conditioning coach. P3 was his first stop and learned from Harvard trained sport scientist how science and technology was used specifically with force plates and complex training systems. Soon after, He worked at EXOS (formerly known as Athletes Performance), learning and developing under some of the best trainers and scientists in the game. At EXOS, Johnny worked with the NFL and NBA Combine Programs, MLB Spring Offseason and assisted the LA Galaxy First Team and Academy.
Soon after, Johnny was hired on by the LA Galaxy and was the Head of Strength and Conditioning for both the Academy and Reserve Team (Galaxy II USL). His job was to develop and rehab all of the Galaxy players coming through the system with the Academy, LA Galaxy II and Galaxy First Team.
One of the great treasures of Johnny's coaching career has been the teams and people he has had the pleasure of sharing knowledge with. For example, while at Galaxy, they constantly hosted top teams and practitioners from Europe and South America like Argentina, Brazil, Man City and Arsenal to name a few. With that came the ability to learn and exchange knowledge with practitioners performing at high levels of sport. As Johnny's knowledge progressed so did the system.
Johnny's style is built on a system that takes all elements of athletic performance training like speed, power, movement skill, strength etc. and moves you through progressions and regressions of exercises based on your level. Through the training, Johnny teaches you how to move efficiently and challenge the systems in your body that produce faster and more explosive movements. In Johnny's mind, this is an art and it takes creativity and interpersonal skills to help each athlete reach their goal.
As a Soccer Player, Johnny was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. The youngest of 5 boys, He grew up in the US Soccer System playing club with Santa Barbara SC. He won a CIF Title with Santa Barbara High School and is second all time leading scorer in program history. He went to UCSB on a full athletic scholarship. That was short lived as He decided to go Pro in Mexico with Estudiantes Tecos Reserve Team. That didn't last long for Johnny so He came back home to Santa Barbara and played 3 seasons at Westmont College and was drafted into the MLS by the back to back champions, Houston Dynamo. A knee injury and repetitive injuries after that closed Johnny's window to continue playing professionally which is how he got into Strength and Conditioning. It's been an amazing ride ever since as Johnny has been able to not only help athletes improve their performances but his experiences growing up in this landscape has been valuable in helping mentor athletes navigating the same journey He went through in Southern California. The difference between Johnny and others is that He's been working in the Global Soccer Game beyond the United States and has been able to learn and work with teams and names at the World Cup Level.
